SALSA MAKING COMPETITION Three Rivers Salsa Festival Saturday, April 5 , 2008 Three Rivers Town Square Contestant Check-in: 10-10:30 a.m.
Salsa Tasting by Public: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Official Tasting by Judges: 2 p.m. Divisions and rules for entry are as follows:
- Amateur Division -- Entry Fee $20
- This is an amateur division with salsa made in a non-commercial kitchen by an individual or team. The entry fee includes a special Salsa Festival apron.
- Professional Division -- Entry Fee $25
- Commercial contestants are companies or individuals who SELL a salsa product to the public (not a restaurant.) Contestants who wish to SELL salsa at the Festival MUST have food
handling certificates, MUST sell through a vendor booth, and MUST enter the Professional division.
- Restaurant Division -- Entry Fee $25
- For restaurants who serve homemade salsa to their customers. No prize money is paid in this division. Restaurants compete for a beautiful traveling trophy.
SET-UP: Each entrant will share a table with another entrant (tables will be provided by the Festival.) The public will walk through between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. tasting
each salsa, then cast a vote for their favorite in each division. At 2 p.m., the official judges will walk through and taste each salsa, then cast their votes in each division. Winners will
be announced and awards presented on Stage One as soon as votes are tabulated. The event will provide the tables, chips and plastic tasting spoons. SALSA MAKER MUST PROVIDE:
- Salsa (prepare approximately 1 gallon of salsa)
- Container to transport salsa
- Bowl and scoop for serving
- Hat, visor or umbrella to shade yourself from the sun
- Table decorations/theme are optional, but fun!
